How Dishwashers Work
Most dishwasher models work in similar ways. They have three main areas - the motor and the pump system; the controls, which include the switches, valves and solenoids; and the interior of the machine.

Dishwashers are equipped with one motor which is attached to a pump. The pump forces the water into the sprayer arms, and during the drain cycle, it also pushes the water out of the dishwasher and down the drain.

Most dishwashers have at least three, but often six or more controls, switches, valves and solenoids.

The Interior of Your Dishwasher
Interiors of dishwasher machines contain these different components: dish racks, spray arms, the tower that sprays water, upper part of the pump assembly, and the water filter.
Dishwasher goes through a number of cycles. The timers and controls work like self-monitoring systems that make the cycles run smoothly. This is how dishwasher operates:
- The unit fills with water
- The water is heated to the right temperature
- The unit automatically opens the detergent dispenser at the right time
- The unit shoots the water through jets to get dishes clean

- The water is drained again
